A UK startup has signed a deal with Dubai to bring customs-free entry to the region’s airport.

ObjectTech, a data-sharing startup focussing on simplifying consumer processes using the Blockchain, will work with the country’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) to deliver the project.

Once operational, travelers arriving into Dubai would be able to directly proceed from the aircraft to the baggage hall without needing to have their passports checked.

“Dubai is really committed to improving the lives of their citizens and visitors through technology and we’re very excited to be a part of making that a reality,” CEO Paul Ferris said in a release by the company this week.

The move marks another step in Dubai’s enthusiastic mission to become a world leader in both Blockchain and Internet of Things applications by 2020.

Various government initiatives and partnerships with other Blockchain market operators are designed to integrate the technology into as many facets of everyday life as possible.

“Seamless entry at international airports has been an idea for many years, but it is the advent of the identity trust framework provided by blockchain technology which means for the first time, this is now possible,” the release continues.

A separate agreement will see ObjectTech work with another Dubai government ministry, this time the Department of Economic Development, to provide expertise on the emPay PoS payment system.
